Brand profile: Common Projects

By admin on August 22nd, 2008

Common Projects are the latest brand to fulfil my current fetish for plain trainers. We’ve featured a pair of their trainers before, but it’s only fair to give the whole brand the once over. Common Projects is the brainchild of Prathan Poopat, former art director for V and Visionaire magazine, and Flavio Girolami, a consultant for several Italian brands.

Their outlook towards the footwear and marketing is one of minimalism as they avoid advertising or complicating their designs. This allows their trainers a timeless appeal which allows them to look regardless of what time of year it is. If you want your trainers to simply complete your outfit instead being the best part of it, Common Projects are the way to go. You can get some of their new range on Oki-Ni, with prices starting from £159.

VMAN has just released a preview of their next issue (VMAN 11) and by the looks of this preview editorial, ‘Suit Yourself,’ it is going to be incredible. Reflecting V Magazine’s ‘The Women’ editorial, which took rich photography and a classic country manor to project an image of high-society living, this editorial tells a nostalgic story of traditional tailoring with almost grainy photography used to stunning effects.

The photographic wizard at hand is none other than David Sherry and the story is styled by Jay Massacret. VMAN introduces the editorial with “this year’s fall suits combine elegant fine tailoring, clean lines, and a whiff of smoky nostalgia.” A perfect introduction to a perfect editorial.

Love The Look- Bruce Almighty Gangster Does Religion with Kane (But No Abel)

By Will Reid on July 18th, 2008

bruce almighty christopher kane.jpgI was recently watching Bruce Almighty and during the infamous Monkey-Butt scene (I try to be a serious journalist,) I was struck with the cold slap of sartorial envy.

Okay, maybe not envy but definite recognition. The Gangsta friend was wearing a torn denim waistcoat and high-waisted trousers similar to not only Christopher Kane’s show of last season but to the Gisele editorial of V54.

Check the image and appreciate how unbelievably on trend this man is!

VMAN 10- Spring/Summer 2008- Boy Toys

By Will Reid on February 11th, 2008

Vman10_boytoyl1_2The next issue of VMAN magazine looks set to make the monthly magazine pile if the following taster is anything to go by. The editorial in question is ‘Boy Toys,’ a story on the latest men’s accessories. It is a feature that mixes trademark V-publication graphic design with great photography by Erwan Frontin for a dynamic and embarrassingly alluring take on this season’s must-haves. I’m not sure whether it is the Transformer-style set design, fluorescent backgrounds or pure robo-brilliance but for some reason this spread draws the reader in and you can’t help thinking how clever the V-team is. I know its clichéd but I can’t think of a more suitable way to sum up this editorial than to say, “Mission accomplished.”
