Fashion Vs. Sport

By Jonathan Smith on August 7th, 2008

The link between fashion and sport is undeniable, even the fashion heavyweights such as Ralph Lauren and Fred Perry have history in sporting activities of various types. Assuming you’re not head to toe in bespoke suit and a pair of wingtips it’s an almost certainty that you’re wearing some kind of sportswear, unless of course you’re reading this naked. In which case kudos. The link is even more noticeable in the street fashion scene with uber-weight sport’s companies like Adidas and Nike pretty much owning the game with vintage re-releases and limited editions.

The Fashion Vs. Sport exhibition at the V&A started this week and is running through to the 4th of January. The exhibition explores in depth the link between sport and fashion and looks to be a bloody fun and educational afternoon out. For more info get over to the V&A’s website here.

To celebrate the exhibition I have knocked together my top 5 sport fashion items, check them out after the jump!

Victoria Plimsolls

By admin on April 29th, 2008

plimsolls.jpgYou know when you kinda like something, but just not enough to buy it? That’s how I feel about boat shoes. Not that they’re not great – and I’m not just saying this to avoid any unnecessary attacks on the blessed colour purple – It’s just that I prefer trainers that look similar to boat shoes over actual boat shoes. Like these Victoria plimsolls.

They’ve got everything I like about boat shoes – they’re navy, low cut and would allow your ankle to breathe during the hot summer – and they have the added bonus of not taking on all the quirks of the boat shoe. Oh, and they cost a grand total of £18, as they’re on sale. If you shop like a man, then this would mean a lot to you.

David Beckham dons slim fitting suit

By Isabelle on January 8th, 2008

David Beckham’s outfit leaves a lot more to the imagination than his
recent underwear ad for Armani
and I must say I quite like this look.
It’s very a formal outfit but the fitted proportions make it more
wearable and I love the silhouette it creates.

Some of my Shiny
colleagues were shocked by the tightness of the kecks but they’re so
well cut he can get away with it. His shirt sleeve garters are a nice detail and I love the high-cut waistcoat. It’s just a shame I can’t heap any praise on his wife’s ‘highlighter pen’ outfit. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge picture.
