With most sales selling out within hours these days, it’s refreshing to see that the Men a la mode sale still has stock an entire week after it started. There’s so many pieces on sale, you’ll probably be suffering from ‘embarrassment of riches’ syndrome. I just made that syndrome, but I bet someone out there has it.
To ease your pain, I’ve decided on the 4 best items in the sale (pictured above) – read all about them after the jump.

Bags are usually available in muted tones as people seek to match it with as many items as possible. In those times when you want a bit of colour contrast you may need a bag that stands out a little more. That’s where this Steven Alan bag comes in.
It’s surprisingly versatile for an orange bag, lending itself to any splash of colour based outfit. The size of the bag means it’s best for either a night over or a heavy shopping trip and it looks particularly fetching with the nautical look. It’s available from Oki-Ni for £99.

As far as I know, Liberty of London didn’t have an online accessories store until fairly recently. It’s pretty slim pickings at the moment but these embossed leather holdalls half-caught my eye. I say half caught my eye because while I do like the shape and design of the bag there’s just something off with the bag.
I can’t put my finger on exactly what’s wrong with this bag – apart from the £395 starting price – but there’s a very strong whiff of ‘tasteless Russian billionaire’ about it. If you can get past that smell, then you can get these from the Liberty online store.

Despite a deluge of beige coats in all shapes
and sizes, it’s still rare to see a beige bag of any kind. The only one I can
recall is a Topman version that’s just sold out in their sale. Surface to Air
must have seen a gap in the market as they’ve brought out this leather
weekend holdall.
The problem with holdalls like this is that
carrying anything of substance in one can be a real pain. This bag is best for
carrying clothes as opposed to electrical equipment, so it’s best used for long
stays at a girl/boyfriends house. It’s available from the surface to air
website and costs 375 Euros.

If you were saving up some money before you
got an A.P.C bag, then you’re out of luck – it’s sold out. Luckily Cuckoo have
a canvas
bag that’s seemingly inspired by the A.P.C equivalent.
It would be unfair to accuse Cuckoo of
copying APC’s weekend bag and just making it smaller but there are several
striking similarities, as you can see from the above picture. The only
difference seems to be that Cuckoo’s bag is made from flimsier material. If you
like APC’s bag but have no need for a weekend bag right now, then this bag
should fit all your nautical needs. Plus it’s only £45. They’ll even make short shorts look a bit less…

When stylists create looks, they often make
un-wearable pieces workable. This trick of the eye usually leads to a
collection full of underwhelming individual pieces and great looks. A.P.C avoid
this problem with their nautical-themed S/S 2008 collection. As well as having
eye catching overall looks, the collections also full of wearable individual
pieces. The pick of the bunch is this leather
strapped weekend bag.
If bags screamed, this would yell “Match me
with anything Brown or Blue!! I’m versatile!! Don’t forget to wear brown shoes!
Or blue! Don’t forget, I’m versatile!” In case you were wondering, the bag
would yell every statement because it was excited. I mean, it is the first bag
to ever speak, at least to my incredible knowledge. The bag costs £105 and is
available from A.P.C’s website.
