Try this at home: Spray-painted Vans

By admin on November 6th, 2008

For his catwalk collection for Victorinox Pierre-Henri Mattout spent the morning spray-painting white Era Vans and they look HOT.
It’s not difficult to get the look, and it’s the perfect craft project for beginners. To try this out get your hands on some fabric spray paints and mask off the rubber sole with tape. You’re trying to get a shaded effect so try to spray from one angle and if you’ve chosen a couple of shades different colours spray each colour from separate angles. Make sure to spray very lightly and don’t be afraid to go over areas to get the desired effect.

Aquascutum white desert boots

By admin on October 20th, 2008

aquascutum white desert boot secret sale.jpg

The Clarks desert boots we featured last week went down so well that I thought I’d find another pair of the classic shoe. A little pricier but nonetheless covetable are these Aquascutum white boots. They’re reduced from £325 to a more acceptable £125 at Secret Sales -you have to sign up to get access to the site but once in there are plenty of bargains to be found.

The white uppers look very soft and the leather sole is pure quality, admittedly white isn’t the most practical colour but I think it makes an interesting winter choice. Teamed with a palette of pale neutrals they will look easily elegant, or try using them as a brilliant punctuation in an otherwise dark outfit.

Snow White has never been so quilted

By Jonathan Smith on September 18th, 2008

If you, like me, look at your luggage and think “It’s good, but it’s just not white enough” then these beauties by Head Porter are for you. Quilted and whiter than anything I have ever seen this set of luggage, part of the Snow White / Blanc collection, will see you right through the dreary winter months, but for god’s sake don’t put it down these things will soak the dirt out of a tramp.

Available in store now at cotwo if you happen to live in HK and online soon if you don’t.

More images after the jump.

Swear and Cassette Playa bring you the Playa 1

By Jonathan Smith on August 5th, 2008

Bored of Brogues? If so then perhaps these imaginatively named Playa 1′s are for you. Available now from Swear this is their second collaboration with Cassette Playa, best known for bright and colourful t-shirts and apparel.

Made from patent leather and coming in two colourways; black and white and yellow and green. Interestingly, each pair mirror-image each other with their inverted colourway, which should turn some heads in the street.

These shoes are not for everyone but you have to admire Cassette Playa for thinking out of the (shoe) box.

Sebago white deck shoes

If you ask, Brandish shall deliver. Paul asked recently where to find a white deck shoe, and when I spotted a pair in a shop window at the weekend I made a mental note of it. They’ll set you back $85 from the website, or you can head to your nearest Russell and Bromley, where they’re roughly the same price.

These deck shoes are the real thing; handsewn with rawhide laces and non-corrosive eyelets, they also feature non-slip rubber soles. These babies are perfect should you ever actually step onto a boat at any point this summer.

Wearing one colour all the time

By admin on February 26th, 2008

While not as interesting as Lindsay Lohan going
impersonating Marilyn Monroe, there was an intriguing feature in New York magazine about
people who wear all one
. Don’t worry, black wasn’t allowed – otherwise it would have just
been a feature on Goths.

There’s a shoe designer who only wears
blue, a fashion designer in grey, an industrial designer who wears pink and
white at separate times (that’s two colours, the cheat), a fabric designer in
green and Stephin Merritt, who only wears brown.  The article is interesting if only for the
pomposity of the interviewees. The industrial designer (is that just fancy talk
for architect?) stated that wearing white made him feel “angelic and free”.
Presumably, wearing black made him feel like the grim reaper.

White out

By ShinyMedia on April 23rd, 2007

White was touted as the in colour last summer, and the look is still as hot this summer. Team white pieces with pale greys, navys or pastels for an unfussy smart look. I’ve picked a few separates that will keep you looking fresh all summer, but don’t wear all-white unless you want to look like Johnny Borrell from Razorlight. See after the jump for full product links.
