Arsenal update: Jovetic’s Chelsea link, Capoue, Mitrovic

By Stefano on June 5th, 2013

There’s no sign that Arsene Wenger has made his mind up yet as to who is going to be his marquee striker singing this summer. Rooney and Higuain are still in contention and it might be a long shot but Lewandowski hasn’t yet put pen to paper for Bayern. Then there’s the wild card of Michu.

The one player that Wenger seems to have cooled on a little is Stevan Jovetic and according to a lot of sources this morning Arsenal’s failure to sort out a deal for the Fiorentina striker has let some old foes in.

Chelsea, who in the past few years have nabbed Arsenal targets Hazard, Mata and Cahill, are apparently mulling over a move for the talented Montenegrin.

Jovetic has said that he wants to move on and so far Arsenal and Juventus have been the front runners. This morning though The Times says this about José Mourinho’s tranfer plans.

The newly appointed Chelsea manager has told the board that he wants to make the Montenegro striker his first signing after returning for his second spell at the club and talks have opened with Fiorentina over a £23 million transfer.

I get the feeling that this one is going to go on all summer long.

Another long running saga is the future of Etienne Capoue. The 24 year old French midfielder has also signaled his intent to move on from Tolouse. The player, who is away on international duty, said to L’Equipe.

‘If he (Casanova the Toulouse coach ) wants to keep me, that is good,’

‘That says that he counts on me, that he is happy with me.

‘But it is football. I feel it is the moment to leave, to play in big competitions.’

The player is also being tracked by Arsenal’s rivals Spurs too.

Finally Arsenal are looking to land another talented European youngster, HITC has details on Sky Italia’s reporting that Arsenal are in pole position to sign Aleksandr Mitrovic from Partizan Belgrade.

The 18 year old featured in the Serbian 2012/13 Team of the Season and he scored 15 goals last season.

Here’s what he is capable of.

Arsenal have already apparently signed Yaya Sanogo and Dan Crowley this summer. So for all the noises about buying experienced players Arsene Wenger still seems very keen on adding young players to his squad.

Arsenal update: Sanogo medical, Vermaelen and confusion over Higuain

By Stefano on May 23rd, 2013

There is plenty of Arsenal related transfer gossip this morning though sadly not much of it relating to Stevan Jovetic. It does seem that the deal with Fiorentina has stalled and that Arsenal run the risk of letting Chelsea sneak in and do an Mata.

There is also plenty of confusion about the future of Gonzalo Higuain too. Last night news from Italy suggested that Juventus had won the race to sign the Argentinian, however in what it claims is an exclusive the Daily Star says the opposite is true

And Starsport revealed yesterday how incoming Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was plotting to hijack the Gunners’ bid to sign Fiorentina’s £25m-rate forward Stevan Jovetic.

That leaves Higuain, 25, as the number one choice – and the Gunners are understood to have contacted Real to sound out whether they would be prepared to sell.

The club are also keeping fairly quiet about what is happening with the transfer of French striker Yaya Sanogo. According to the Lyon website the player has had a medical and the move is imminent.

Guy Cotret said

He gave us his answer. He chose to join Arsenal and so he left to have his medical there.

Finally The Sun is going with the story that Arsenal are willing to listen to £5m bids for skipper Thomas Vermaelen.

As it points out

It would mean the Gunners taking a £5m hit on a player they bought from Ajax for £10m four years ago.

The Gunners captain is apparently desperate to stay in north London, but it seems as if the club are very keen on shipping him out

Arsenal appear to have signed French striker…

By Stefano on May 17th, 2013

So says French radio station RMC which is reporting that Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo on a freebie this summer. Apparently it s four year deal for the striker who is currently plying his trade with Ligue 2 side Auxerre.

If it is true then the good news is that Sanogo ceryaionly knows where the sticks are. The 20 year old has scored eight goals in seven games for Auxerre in Ligue 2 season.

The bad news is that he is a bit injury prone. But then I seem to remember another Arsenal striker had issues with injuries for a while…

So is Sanogo the next Henry? Or the next Joel Campbell. We will find out soon enough. Above is his four goal haul against Laval in March which probably got Wenger and Grimandi over excited. Mind you, two of those goals my gran could have put away…

This one does sound like a goer to me though.

The low down on Arsenal target and France’s hottest new young striker

By Stefano on March 7th, 2013

What with Giroud scoring just three times in 10 games – the same btw as an ex Arsenal striker – The Gunners are in dire need of a clinical striker. Earlier today Andraes Cornelius was linked to the club, but now TalkSport have suggested that a player in a slightly more competitive league could be on his way to The Emirates.

Auxerre’s Yaya Sanogo is without a doubt the talk of French football at the moment. This after he scored seven goals in one week in February including putting four past Laval and then hitting a hat-trick seven days later against Tours.

And the youngster’s contract expires in the summer – a fact that has alerted numerous clubs around Europe including Arsenal and their French scout Gilles Grimandi.

The Daily Star even thinks that Arsene Wenger accompanied Grimandi to see the player this week to secure his signature.

It is quite astonishing that Auxerre haven’t nailed the player down for a few more years given his track record. In an astonishing run for the French Under 16s team in 2009 he score 18 goals in 18 games.

Auxerre have been fairly slow in accommodating Sanogo in their first team. This is largely because he spent over a year sidelined by an injury in 2011. He has been playing more regularly for the club this season and in fourteen starts has bagged an impressive eight goals.

Auxerre seem likely to get relegated this year so Sanogo will almost certainly be on the move.

The video shows him scoring some rather spectacular goals one of which was for France against England.
